My Top Holiday Wellness Tips: How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

Before we get into the nitty-gritty and I share all my holiday wellness tips I have to know…are you one of those people that decorate for Christmas super early? No judgment from me, you do you! Personally, I like to wait for the week of Thanksgiving to deck the halls.

Okay so now that you’ve got the holiday decor up and the Hallmark movies playing, you’re full-on ready for the holiday season. If you’re worried about sticking to your healthy habits this year, don’t fret. I’ve got 5 tips to help ya out!

My Top Holiday Wellness Tips

  1. Stick to your normal routine.

I know it can be tricky to stick to a normal eating and exercise routine when you’ve got all the extra festive activities going on, but doing your best can make a huge difference!

If you normally exercise first thing in the morning, keep it up! If you’re used to eating three solid meals a day, stick to that. Don’t let all the festivities be an excuse to completely throw out your routine. You’ll feel better and have a healthier holiday season.

2. Set aside time to be active.

stay active

Staying active through the holidays will make your life a whole lot easier come January. You’ll have more energy, be able to enjoy those tasty holiday meals more, and be better able to handle all that holiday stress (helloooo uncalled comments from relatives lol).

If you’re finding it difficult, make the goal of doing something active for just 20 minutes 5 days a week. It could be going for walks, hitting the gym, doing some simple workouts at home, or even playing a turkey bowl game with the fam!

3. Don’t drink your calories.

Of COURSE you should enjoy some holiday punch, eggnog and a drink here and there during the holiday season. Just be mindful of it! Keep in mind that eggnog, sparkling cider, and alcoholic drinks can add a heap full of sugar to your day. All that sugar can weaken your immune system leaving you feeling less than stellar. If you tend to get sick this time of year, this may be why!

Choose water more often and enjoy those yummy holiday drinks, just in moderation and when it’s really worth it!

4. Fill up on veggies.

Veggies are your best friend during the holidays (and always!) Eating your veggies and I would add fruit too, helps you get the nutrients you need to feel your best during this busy season.

Fruits and veggies are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants as well as fiber to help keep your hunger and cravings in check. Again, if you tend to get sick this time of year, not eating enough whole fruits and veggies could be contributing to the problem!

5. Don’t stress over it.

The holiday season can be a stressful time (ironically). There’s no need to over-stress about what you eat and getting in the “perfect” workout every single day. Just do your best and enjoy the time with loved ones!

If you know you’re a stress case during the holidays, do your best to focus on self-care. Maybe that means fewer workouts and more time with family. Maybe that means not stressing about the food that will be served at the party and just enjoying it. Maybe it means more bubble baths, sleep, yoga, and deep breathing.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health and your intuition is a great guide!

Wrapping It Up

I hope these holiday wellness tips help you have the best and healthiest holiday season yet! Remember, it’s not about keeping the pounds off or even getting a head start on your new year’s resolution, it’s about treating your body with love and care so you can feel your best!
