10 Things You Can Do Today to Be Healthy and Feel Better.
A healthy lifestyle is often talked about as a long term process. Ya know, slowly making changes until we have built several strong healthy habits that make up a well balanced life.
Many of us put off starting any of these healthy habits until some designated day. “Diet starts monday!”
But the truth is, you can literally start today, right NOW to make healthy choices. You don’t have to wait and making these small healthy choices won’t disrupt your life like you might think.
Here are 10 super simple things to do TODAY to help you be healthy and feel better. You don’t have to do all 10, but pick a few and try them out today!
How to Be Healthy Today
1. Schedule in a 20 minute walk or workout of your choice RIGHT NOW.
If you fail to think ahead and plan out time for physical activity, theres a really good chance it’s not going to happen.
Take some time first thing in the morning or the night before to plan out your day and make sure to fit in at least 20 minutes of activity. It can be anything you want! Just move!
Exercise, even if it’s just a little, helps you think better, gives you increased energy, and will help you sleep better.
2. Find a large reusable water bottle and aim for at least 64oz today.
If you don’t already have a reusable water bottle, get one! I’m personally a huge fan of Hydroflask, but any bottle that’s BPA free will do!
Found one? Good! Now aim for at least 64oz today of water. Keep track if you need to and try drink often during the day. You’ll feel better, have a cleaner mouth, better digestion, and have more energy.
3. Add something green to your breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Most of us don’t get enough greens in our diet. Make an effort today to eat something green. The darker the better!
Try adding a handful of spinach to your omelet, smoothie, or enjoy a leafy green salad at dinner. Greens provide important vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy, thriving body!
4. Craving something salty? Grab a handful of nuts instead of chips or fries.
If you get a case of the munchies for something salty, instead of grabbing a bag of chips or going out for fries, try some lightly salted nuts instead.
It can be any kind, almonds, cashews, or peanuts or a mix! Just keep portions to the size of your palm as nuts do contain a lot of calories, although healthy ones!
The healthy fats and fiber help satisfy cravings and help keep your heart and skin healthy.
5. Craving something sweet? Grab a piece of your favorite fruit or a piece of dark chocolate.
If you’re like me, you crave sweets more than salty stuff. Instead of going for a candy bar or big bowl of ice cream, try a piece of dark chocolate (70% or darker is best) or some of your favorite fruit.
If you just REALLY need your ice cream, you can easily make “healthy” ice cream with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, or even canned coconut milk. If you want a healthy cookie dough recipe, try this plant based and secretly healthy version!
6. Send a encouraging message to someone or smile at a stranger.
Pretty much everyone you know and don’t know is going through something tough. Life isn’t easy, so let’s make it better with a kind message or smile! It’s free and leaves you both feeling good inside!
Think of a friend or someone you know and just send them a quick text or message. It doesn’t have to be long, just let them know you’re thinking of them or grateful for them!
7. Stretch while you watch your favorite show tonight.
There’s defiantly nothing wrong with unwinding at the end of the day with some good ol Netflix. A way to make it better? Do a few basic stretches while you watch!
Stretching is so good for the body and can help you relax and prepare you for a good nights rest too.
8. Feeling down? Stop and write down 3 things you are grateful for and why.
If you’re feeling a little low, the best pick me up I know is gratitude.
Grab a pice of paper, a journal,( or use this free download I made) and write down three things you are grateful for. I promise you’ll feel better, uplifted, and if you’re consistent, you can totally change your perspective!
9. Floss your teeth tonight.
The state of your teeth and gums can tell you a lot about your health. I used to HATE flossing. Until I realized how important it is for healthy gums and my overall health.
Take 3 minutes and floss tonight after you brush (if you don’t already).
10. Get in bed by 10pm. Not tired yet? Read or meditate.
Ok, I’m totally still working on this one. I’m a total night owl, but Ive been trying to get to bed earlier. If I’m not quite tired yet, I’ll read or just do some deep breathing to help signal to my body it’s time to sleep!
Making sleep a priority is a HUGE way you can benefit your health right away.
